So, I’m not going to sugarcoat this: this is pretty humbling for an author who, a couple of years ago, took a strong moral stance against selling through Amazon. But, well… that was before the pandemic. Do I think the company’s improved meaningfully? Well, no. It’s just that, as far as I can tell, I’m not going to be the kind of hotshot author who can just pick whatever platform and make it work.
I can write niche genre fiction, or I can refuse to sell through the single biggest seller of self-published works on the planet. It’s time to stop pretending I’ll catch hold of a miracle and get away with both. And I’m not going to change my writing–I’d rather just stop entirely–so here we are.
Anyway, it could be worse. As ironic as it might seem at first blush given some of its events and political ideas, Sword of the Outsider kind of… y’know… already assumes a continuity where I was ultimately forced to (pun somewhat-bitterly intended) capitulate to the system in order to eke out some kind of life on Earth. I’ve said for a while that I would stick out these ideals as long as I felt I could, and, well… I guess this is that far. I can’t keep trying to organize my existence around the pre-pandemic world.
Besides, lots of friends and acquaintances stream on Twitch. Pretty much the same thing, right?
So here’s the link, and I hope this makes it easier for a lot of you to get access to this book.
